Cineastul Ridley Scott spune că are deja scenariul pentru „Gladiatorul 2„, continuarea filmului lansat în 2000, cu Russell Crowe în rolul principal și recompensat cu cinci premii Oscar, inclusiv pentru cel mai bun lungmetraj.

În 2018, Deadline a scris că Ridley Scott, nominalizat la patru premii Oscar, urma să primească scenariul noului film de la scenaristul „Top Gun: Maverick”, Peter Craig. Povestea s-ar fi concentrat pe Lucius, fiul personajului interpretat de Connie Nielsen, Lucilla, din filmul original. Lucius este nepotul lui Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), împăratul roman uzurpator ucis de Maximus (Russell Crowe). Personajul lui Crowe a murit la sfârșitul primului film, dar continuarea îl găsește pe Lucius foarte influențat de Maximus.

Producătorii au dezvăluit, în iunie 2019, că „Gladiator 2” va avea loc la două decenii după acțiunea din filmul original, care a avut încasări de peste 400 de milioane de dolari la nivel mondial și a fost nominalizat la 11 premii Oscar, scrie Indie Wire.

Recent, Ridley Scott a declarat pentru revista Empire, înainte de lansarea filmului „The Last Duel”, că următorul film „Gladiator” va fi realizat după ce va încheia producția pentru lungmetrajul său despre Napoleon, „Kitbag”. În acest proiect va juca Joaquin Phoenix, ca împărat al Franței.

„Deja am scris (următorul, n.r.) ‘Gladiator'”, a spus Scott. „Așadar, după ce îl voi termina pe ‘Napoleon’, ‘Gladiator’ va fi gata să pornească”.

În afară de „The Last Duel”, Scott a mai regizat recent și „House of Gucci”, cu Lady Gaga în rolul principal.
